De la Soul Live band

De la Soul Live band

It’s been 12 years since their last album (The Grind Date, 2004) and a long wait for fresh music but De La Soul are finally back. The New York trio have just released their 8th album: and the Anonymous Nobody… (August 2016). The recording was entirely funded by a crowdfunding campaign. These East Coast icons have never before done anything that’s so integral to their fans. The sense of community instantly benefited the critically-acclaimed album that topped the Billboard and held the number 3 spot in the R&B/Hip Hop Top 10. Since De La Soul hit the scene in 1989 (with the album 3 Feet High and Rising), the band has constantly pushed the boundaries of hip hop. Blends of jazz and African flavour, challenging music and sounds have fuelled surrealist and focused prose. The Long Island trio’s signature cheek blends with samples from James Brown, Art of Noise, Whodini, Parliament and The Beastie Boys, police sirens and trumpets on this album.
