Many blues fans can’t think of Kenny Neal without thinking of Billy Branch with whom he recorded some of his best albums in Canada (e.g. Easy Meeting in 98). Kenny was already with his brothers Noël, Larry, Raful Jr and Riley back then. Upon his return to his native Louisiana and Baton Rouge, he recorded a series of albums on Alligator Records and Telarc. The guitarist comes into his own on a Fender Telecaster and brings to mind Roy Buchanan’s technical flair with Albert Collins’s cutting-edge. Kenny Neal is an equally impressive bassist, expressive harmonica player and soulful singer; he puts on a real show. He started out as a bassist for Buddy Guy and has continued in this vein for 25 years with a blend of swamp and Chicago blues. Kenny made a comeback in 2009 with his brothers after a break due to health issues. Now he’s back with the double Grammy-nominated album Bloodline.
