Camilla George
After
Camilla George
The prevalence of female musicians is one of the particularities and great strengths of the latest generation to emerge from the London jazz scene. Far from giving up their place to their male counterparts, they have swiftly become key constituents of the British scene. Saxophonist Camilla George is one such woman. Her contributions to singer Zara McFarlane’s albums and three own records make her someone to follow. Her latest album, Ibio-Ibio, is a tribute to her Nigerian roots, specifically to the Ibibio tribe, from which she descends. A fusion of traditional music, the great tradition of bebop saxophonists and hip-hop, testament to remarkable maturity and mastery.
