The Staples Jr. Singers

It was through the astonishing discovery of their only album to date - recorded in 1975 and miraculously reissued on the Luaka Bop label - that we came to know of Staples Jr. Singers (the name was chosen because of their admiration for the Staples Singers!) and through them of the whole alternative scene working on a daily basis to preserve the most archaic and authentic forms of popular African American music in the churches and village halls of the US Deep South. Originally from Mississippi, this family band, which for three generations has welcomed and incorporated new singers and musicians into its fold without ever straying from its path, is coming to Vienne to share the sorcery behind its raw and timeless music that blends soul and gospel with contagious fervour.
