Jon Batiste
We still remember his amazing performance in his native Louisiana, when he was chosen to sing the American national anthem during the Super Bowl 2025. Born in a renowned family of New Orleans, Jon Batiste is a phenomenon: the public discovered this gifted pianist, singer and songwriter on the American TV, where he was leading the band with his insane energy in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He worked with the star Beyoncé before becoming a star himself: he already won seven Grammy Awards and he is not even forty! This complete artist also received an Oscar for the music of the animated film Soul. We are more than happy to exclusively welcome him at Jazz à Vienne for his first performance in a French festival and his first concert outside of Paris. And we still do not know what we will like most about him: his incredible virtuosity as a pianist, the captivating flexibility of his voice or his amazing scenic presence!
Big Freedia
“My music has always conveyed messages of love, joy, freedom and inclusiveness. This project is no different”, underlined the singer from New Orleans last summer, when she launched her new album Pressing Onward, which was named after the Baptist church where she started to play music. This shows a dedication and a remarkable artistic longevity. Almost four decades after those formative years, the “Queen Diva”, a world reference of this dynamic and festive hip-hop genre called bounce music, begins a new chapter of her story, which looks like a return to the roots, as it is often the case with the biggest parts of a career. Combining those two very different worlds which define her, in a daring and refreshing way, this queer and urban reinterpretation of the gospel offered by Big Freedia promotes open-mindedness and inclusiveness, two very important subjects in the light of what is going on in the society. She will play with a gospel choir for this concert, which will create a rare moment of harmony and unity as well as remind us the power of music in a world in the grip of crisis and doubts.
